In this post, I’ll be showcasing 18 easy wood turning projects to make on a lathe.
I got hooked on woodturning when I started making wooden pens on the lathe. I quickly discovered that you can make tons of projects on a mini lathe. And many of the pen kit suppliers have other kits like letter openers, keychains, magnifying glasses, etc. I’m never short on gifts and occasionally make things to sell.
Depending on the brand, you can buy a mini lathe starting from about $200 to $600 or more. Or find a used one. They only take up a small footprint in my shop – maybe a 3 foot by 3 foot area. Mine is a JET Mini Lathe that I bought several years ago. I’ve been very satisfied with JET. The only thing I wish I had on my lathe is a variable speed switch/motor. Sometimes it’s advantageous to slow the lathe down for certain tasks. For my JET, I have to move the drive belts around to change the speed.
Check out the list of projects below and please consider this fun hobby. I also put together a YouTube video that covers the same projects listed below. I’m continuing to add new projects to my YouTube channel. If you have questions about woodturning, feel free to leave a comment or reach out to me through my contact form.
