The handmade antler pen is an incredible craft project. I made the one pictured here a few months ago. Turning antler pens can be a challenge, but the end product is well worth the effort. This pen took me about two hours to make. Antler pens make unique gifts and they sell well.
The antlers from the whitetail deer are a wonderful renewable resource. Each year during the winter months the male whitetail deer will shed his antlers and grow a new pair back later in the year. Antler material can be used to make all kinds of crafts: buttons, knife handles, letter openers, drawer handles, chandeliers.
In the picture above, I used antler sheds to produce a writing pen. This one was turned on my JET mini-lathe and polished to a glossy shine.
I purchased this pen kit from Woodcraft.com and, it’s called the Ultra Cigar Pen Kit. You will also need the bushings that match this kit.
