Cutting Board Videos
If you’ve followed my blog, you may have already seen my tutorial on making a cutting board, and though I’m a little biased, I think it’s a decent tutorial. However, I realize that many people learn better by watching videos. Who hasn’t turned to a YouTube video to learn how to make stuff? So I have curated 5 amazing cutting board videos that you can add to your reference library. I chose these videos because they offer several tips and techniques, the video quality is very good, and the instructions are easy to follow.
Overall, the cutting boards in these videos aren’t complex and that translates into using fewer or simpler tools. I always believe it’s a good idea to start woodworking projects that are as simple as possible. Then you build the confidence and experience to try more complicated designs.
DIY Pete – I love this site and the video tutorials offered by Pete Sveen. DIY Pete is chock-full of articles, tips, tutorials, and videos. Many of the tutorials seem to be tailored toward projects for the home. I loved the video he made on how to build a corn hole game board. This is definitely on my project to-do list.
I Like To Make Stuff – This website is the brainchild of Bob Clagett. Bob has created a wonderful site to bring inspiration to the DIYer and maker community. I’ve been hanging out in his woodworking section and found tons of interesting projects. The cutting board video is well done. He really takes the time to explain each step and shares tips along the way.
Woodworking For Mere Mortals – Be prepared to be entertained and educated by Steve Ramsey. I love Steve’s quirky humor, and he produces some very well-done video tutorials. This video is his first cutting board, and he introduces a $10 software program called Cutting Board Designer. With this program, you can lay out how you want your cutting board to look and the program generates a set of instructions for making the board.
The Wood Whisperer – Some of you may have heard of this website. Marc Spagnuolo has created an awesome site for woodworkers. On his about page he states that the Wood Whisperer site is his way to combine four major passions: woodworking, technology, education, and humor. The video on his cutting board has 2 parts. While the quality of the video may not be as good as the previous videos, I really like how Marc takes the time and talks about types of cutting boards, proper wood selection, and proper glue selection. In the part 2 video, he also spends time talking about different ways to finish the cutting board and how to maintain it. The result is a beautiful end-grain cutting board.

WoodWorkWeb – Here is another cutting board video that shows you a little bit different design. It’s a very good video, but you may need an extra tool or two to make this design. I like how the teacher in this video goes out of his way to explain the whys. You can also tell that he’s made quite a few cutting boards over his career – at least that’s how it comes across.
