I recently turned a discarded block of wood into the pen pictured above. It’s called the Gearshift Pen. My son has been working the last few years on a project car, his 78 Chevy Camaro. It’s a sweet car, and this is a sweet PEN! This pen, along with others I will show you, make great gifts for men in your life—your husband, father, son, son-in-law, uncle. The pen I’m giving my son is made from African Blackwood. It matches the color of his car.
Below is another Gearshift Pen made from Bocote wood. Note the prominent feature of the Gearshift Pen–the click mechanism. It replicates the gearshift in a car, modeled after a five-speed “H” patterned shifter. Move the shifter forward and it projects the ink refill out. Shift it “out of gear” and the ink refill retracts back into the pen. The cap features a replica tire, complete with tread. And get a load of the clip—it’s shaped like a crowbar.
But wait—there’s more! (I hope this isn’t sounding like an infomercial) The cool thing about these handmade pens is that you can choose something that appeals to just about any interest in a man’s life.
Below I’m showing a few other pens that make nifty and unique gifts. First one is called a Bolt Action pen. The front is shaped like a bullet and the “handle” in the back operates like the bolt on a riftle. Hunters and gun enthusiasts love these pens.
This next pen is the Lever Action Pen. It resembles a lever-action rifle and operates the same way. Kinda has a nice western motiff.
Okay, maybe your man isn’t into outdoorsy stuff. Maybe he’s more into history. So check out my Civil War pens. The pen cap and pen tip, both replicate bullets from the Civil War era. And the clip is modeled after the Springfield Musket.
Perhaps you have an engineer or techno-geek in the family. I also have pens for them. These are Circuit Board pens made from actual circuit boards that have been imbedded in clear acrylic. I can make these in various colors–blue, orange, green, black, and white.
What about pastor appreciation? These men have a big impact on our families and communities. So why not give him a Faith Pen? I love to make these with genuine Bethlehem Olive wood. Note the beautiful crosses stamped on the pen’s cap. On the center band is stamped the words, “Faith, Hope, Love.”
Here’s another possibility. Say your man serves in law enforcment or the military, here are the wonderful Patriot Pens. These come in a number of styles. They feature the American Eagle on the pen clip and stamped on the center band is, “God Bless America.”
To be perfectly honest, many of the pens pictured above have been sold or already given away. But I can make more pens very similar to the ones I just showed you.
Christmas is just around the corner, so please consider a handmade gift this year. If you would like for me to produce more one-of-a-kind pens for the men in your life, simply use the contact link above. I will make every effort to respond in 24 to 72 hours.
Keep in mind that these pens are not mass produced. I make each one by hand in my shop. I do this on the side, so it may take me some time. I will need lots of lead time.
