A while back I came across some instructions for using an aluminum arrow and the Slimline pen kit to create a rather unique pen. You can download instructions for making this pen here. Thanks to Don Ward for sharing these instructions.
I love archery and was fortunate to already have the 2117 Easton arrow in my quiver. So I decided to sacrifice my modern-day arrow and combine it with a small piece of Osage Orange to make this one-of-a-kind writing pen.
In my previous post I showed you how to make the basic Slimline Pen, using all wood. But I wanted to share this post to demonstrate the versatility of the Slimline. The Slimline pen tubes fit the 2117 Easton Arrow perfectly, so that made it fairly easy to make this pen.
The theme for this pen is modern-day archery meets primitive archery. As you may know Osage Orange was used by native indians to create bows. The portions that are straight grain make excellent bows. From a distance the fruit of the tree resembles oranges. Prior to the invention of barbwire, farmers planted this as a hedgerow to help corral their cattle. If you want to read more history about the Osage Orange wood check out this site.
Pictured below are more pics of the Osage Orange Archery Pen and a picture of a Cigar Pen made from the same wood. I love the color and durability of this wood.
How have you modified the Slimline pen kit to create a customized pen?
